Neil Young and John Mellencamp at 40th Farm Aid
The 40 ° Farm AIDthe event created and organized by Willie Nelson will see the participation of artists who have already participated in other times and co -founders Neil Young And John Mellencamp.
The 2025 edition of the Festival will be held on September 20 in Minneapolis.
Among the other planned artists appear Dave Matthews (with Tim Reynolds), Margo Price, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Trampled by Turtles, Waxahatchee, Eric Burton of the Black Pumas, Jesse Welles And Madeline Edwards. Other guests will add later.
“For 40 years, Farm Aid and our partners have been at the side of the farmers, supporting them to remain on their land even when the power of companies, the wrong policies and the unrealized promises make it more difficult to go on,” said Nelson in a text published on the Festival website. This year we are proud to bring Farm Aid to Minnesota to celebrate the farmers who support us and to fight for a food system that works for all of us. “The small farmers with the family companies do not hold back, nor us”.
This year’s Farm Aid scaletta is similar to that of last year, in which both Young and MellenCamp were present. “We are fighting for our lives,” said Young during the press conference to present the event, underlining the importance of supporting small American farmers instead of large companies.
“Remember that we are the cause of this climate change.” added the Canadian singer -songwriter also stressing that “every day we have the opportunity to be more united than yesterday”.
With the exception of 2021 and 2022, Neil Young has performed every Farm Aid since his birth.
The idea of Farm Aid was born during the Live Aid (13 July 1985), when Bob Dylan denounced the situation of the “Local Farmers”, local farmers, those entities of small and medium -sized dimensions managed at a family level or as independent farms, which risked closing due to the mortgage debt.
This thought stimulated Willie Nelson, Neil Young And John Mellencamp to move in support. They thus decided to organize a fundraising concert, which was held on September 22, 1985 in the Champign Memorial Stadium, Illinois in front of 80,000 people.
Every year (usually in September) Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John MellenCamp have taken on organizing the concert that has become a traveling event that takes place annually in different locations around the United States. The 2023 edition returned to the Indiana which had already hosted Farm Aid in 1990 and 2001.
The funds raised by the event are used to finance programs in support of local farms.
The 2023 edition of the Farm AID saw Bob Dylan returning to the program of the event where he was missing from the first edition in 1985.
