Motörhead, farewell to the historic guitarist Phil Campbell
The world of hard rock and heavy metal mourns the passing of Phil Campbellhistoric guitarist of Motorheadwho died at the age of 64. The news was made public by his band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, a group in which he played together with his children Todd, Dane and Tyla.
In a statement released on social media, the family announced the musician’s death, explaining that Campbell passed away peacefully after spending a period of time in intensive care following a complex surgical operation. In the message he is remembered not only as an artist, but also as a loving husband, father and grandfather, nicknamed “Bampi” by his family.
Born on May 7, 1961 in Pontypridd, Wales, Campbell was one of the most important guitarists in the British metal scene. He joined Motörhead in 1984 and remained in the band for over thirty yearshelping to define the group’s sound alongside legendary frontman Lemmy Kilmister. The group disbanded in 2015 following Lemmy’s death.
During his long career with Motörhead, Campbell participated in the making of numerous albums of the band, including “Orgasmatron” (1986), “1916” (1991), “Bastards” (1993) and “Inferno” (2004), contributing powerful riffs and a guitar style that has become a trademark of the group.
