Mina and Slipknot meet in the new Gucci commercial

Mina’s sophisticated and immortal voice meets the pounding and unmistakable sound of Slipknot. It seems like an impossible combination, but it becomes reality in the new Gucci short film.

In the promotional spot of the historic Florentine fashion house, now under the guidance of Demna1 minute and 45 seconds long, “A kiss is too little” opens the sequence of images, until the song “(sic)“bursts into the narrative, bringing with it a violent and tight rhythmic charge that overturns the initial balance. The project is directed by Jonathan Glazerwhich builds an initially suspended and elegant sequence, with the top model Mariacarla Boscano whistling for attention, and a series of perfectly dressed figures emerge from a two-story hotel, immersing themselves in a rarefied atmosphere. When the scene moves outside, under the moon, the sound changes along with the images, e.g the pounding double bass drum of one of the symbolic songs of the masked heavy metal band suddenly enters. A convertible car drives through the night and ends up crashing into an almost surreal sequenceas the editing speeds up and the energy builds, creating a stark contrast between the polished fashion aesthetic and the band’s sonic brutality. The atmosphere is distorted again at the end, on the notes of “Hier encore” by Charles Aznavour.

With lyrics by Antonio Amurri and music by Bruno Canfora, “A kiss is too little” is a song originally released by Mina in 1965 as the B-side of the single which included the song “Soli” on the A-side.

“(sic)” is one of the songs originally published inSlipknot’s eponymous debut albumreleased in 1999. Despite never having been released as a single, over the years the song has become an iconic piece of the Iowa group, now a must in the setlists of its concerts, so much so that it has established itself as one of the most performed songs of its career. It is not the first time that the universe of Slipknot crosses that of fashion, and just recently Shawn Crahan, alias Clown, was spotted in the audience of a fashion show in New York.

“Hier encore” (in French literally “Just yesterday” or “Not long ago”), written by Charles Aznavour with music by Georges Garvarentzis one of the most intense and universal songs in the French singer-songwriter’s repertoire, in which a bitter and very lucid assessment is made of the passing of time and the lost opportunities. Originally published in 1964has crossed languages and generations to become a global standard, from the English version “Yesterday When I Was Young” made famous by Roy Clark, to interpretations by artists such as Bing Crosby, Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield and Julio Iglesias. Over time it has been reinterpreted in dozens of versions, keeping its emotional strength intact, even becoming a duet between Aznavour and Elton John in 2008. Recently, the song has returned to global attention and has begun to become popular on social media among the new generations thanks to sampling in “Monaco” by Bad Bunnywhich brought it back to life in a contemporary audience.
