Megadeth are working on a new album
In a recent interview given in an “X Spaces”, Dave Mustaine the frontman of Megadeth shared updates on the upcoming album (“X spaces” are a live audio conversation mode on X. Anyone can enter, listen and talk in an X space).
The Megadeth leader revealed that all the band members are not there and that he is alone. “I’m in the studio right now working with engineer Chris Rakestraw. And everyone else isn’t there. Teemu Mäntysaari (guitar) is in Switzerland while James LoMenzo (low) e Dirk Verbeuren (drums) I’m in Los Angeles.”
So I’m here alone with Chris. Chris leaving tomorrow for a holiday and today I’m working until the last second to get as much done as possible before he leaves as we won’t start again until he gets back around New Year. And at that point, it’s only a matter of a couple of weeks before everyone gets together in the studio. And for this I am enthusiastic. And you guys are going to be thrilled,” he continued, adding that “it was frustrating, because I wish I was further along than I am now. But that’s okay.”
“When you write original music, you always have to start from step one,” Mustaine explained. “And that’s what I’ve done my whole career. So before I did this job, I made all four of us listen to the entire catalog – every single song; 205 songs – and I wanted to make sure they knew the chord progressions, the lyric patterns, all kinds of things about that, so that they would hear the tempos and the starts and stops and all that to help them write the songs and contribute as well.”
“And it was really cool because Teemu is contributing, Dirk is contributing, like last time, James gave his all to the times and he has more stuff coming on this record,” the frontman added.
Megadeth have not publicly announced that they are working on a new album, but they have made it clear in several interviews. In March of this year, Mäntysaari shared what fans can expect to hear on the new album: “Maybe you’ll hear some ‘Rust in Peace’ vibes, or maybe some things similar to the last two. In any case, The direction Megadeth is taking now is good, and the atmosphere within the band seems to be in a very good place.”
In September 2022, Megadeth’s latest album “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in its first week of sales. The album also took the top spot on several charts, including Top Album Sales, Top Current Albums Sales, Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums.
