Martyn LeNoble: Perry Farrell is the worst possible frontman

At the moment, it seems that Perry Farrell isn’t much loved by his bandmates, past or present. Earlier this month, the long-awaited reunion tour of the classic lineup of Jane’s Addiction it was shattered when Farrell punched the guitarist Dave Navarro mid-song during the Boston concert, leading to an onstage fight and the sudden end of the show.

Last week, in a podcast interview, a Jane’s guitar tech claimed that Farrell also punched Navarro backstage (Read here). The band has canceled the remainder of their reunion tour, leading to speculation that the reunion is over.

Now Martyn LeNobleformer bassist in Farrell’s post-Jane’s band, i Porno For Pyrosattacked both Farrell and his wife in a message on Twitter.

Dutch-born bassist Martyn LeNoble joined Porno For Pyros when Perry Farrell founded the band in 1992. LeNoble played on both Porno For Pyros albums and also played with Farrell on some later solo records.

Additionally, LeNoble began participating in the recording sessions for the album “Strays” from 2003’s Jane’s Addiction – original bassist Eric Avery didn’t return – but was fired during recording and didn’t appear on Porno For Pyros’ farewell tour last year.

Now, LeNoble has some things to say about both Farrell and his wife Etty Lau Farrell, who has acted as a sort of spokesperson for Farrell amid all the Jane’s Addiction drama. Here’s what Martyn LeNoble said on Twitter, “going down” hard.

I can say, unequivocally, that Perry was the worst frontman I’ve ever worked with. Always a kind word, followed by shitty actions. The fish rots from the head down. I still don’t understand how he managed to channel some of those great lyrics and vocals into the first two Jane’s records. And I’ve worked with some “difficult” singers. Everyone is kinder, better and more talented.
I judge people by their actions…not their “wit” jokes. Perry doesn’t show up for rehearsals, sound checks, writing, etc. He’s late with shitty lyrics. Some I had to tell him were terrible. Unprepared, wide-eyed, not present, stoned. The motherfucker does it over and over again. And Etty he’s a horrible person. “I’m going to sue you…. We have money to burn.” Let’s see how it ends.”
