Måneskin’s Victoria in new series about “legendary bass players”
A new docuseries has been announced that promises to take audiences on a hypnotic journey into the world of bass, led by three extraordinary bassists: Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Nate Mendel (Foo Fighters) and Melissa Auf der Maur (Hole, The Smashing Pumpkins). Sony Music Vision’s series with Sky Arts is titled ‘Greatest Basslines’ and will also feature “exclusive performances from legendary bass players”. According to the official press release, the series will be broadcast from November on Sky Arts and on the NOW streaming service, but at the moment it is not known in which countries it will be available.
As made known, Peter Hook, Nate Mendel and Melissa Auf der Maur are each author of his own episode“deconstructing the iconic bass lines that defined their careers and revealing the stories behind the strings.” The episodes, we read, “also explore the grooves that inspired them, sharing the bass lines that brought them closer to the instrument for the first time and that shaped their way of playing”. They are joined by a stellar cast, made up of Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Mani (The Stone Roses), Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie), Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), Deego (Fontaines DC), Victoria De Angelis (Måneskin), Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd/Madonna), Krist Novoselic (Nirvana), Adam Clayton (U2), Adrian Younge (Wu-Tang Clan, Kendrick Lamar) and Alex James (Blur). Each guest will “bring their own unique story, insights and performances to the series.”
On the project, Phil Edgar-Jones OBE, Executive Director of Unscripted Originals, Sky, said: “‘Greatest Basslines’ highlights the instrument that drives much of the music we love. It’s an opportunity to hear from the musicians who know best, sharing the grooves that shaped their sound and changed the way we listen.”
