Macy Gray: she didn’t like being eliminated from “The Masked Singer”
In the last episode of the show “The Masked Singer UK”, the British version of the “local” “The masked singer” (broadcast on RAI 1), Macy Grey she left the stage and the broadcasts after the judges failed to save her and revealed her true identity.
Although most of the judges guessed the singer’s identity (Gray appeared in three episodes in the Toad in the Hole mask), Gray’s opponent in the Bear mask was favored, resulting in her dramatic escape.
The American singer was “hidden” behind the mask “inspired” by “Toad in the Hole”, (rI eat in the hole) which is a traditional dish widespread in England and Scotland whose ingredients are sausages wrapped in the batter used to prepare Yorkshire puddings (another traditional dish based on roast beef) seasoned with onion and vegetable sauce.
The “I Try” singer was joined by the host Joel Dommett for the usual post-revelation question and answer, but, evidently dissatisfied and annoyed, she responded in monosyllables. “Did you have fun during the show?” Dommett asked Gray, who responded “Yes” with little enthusiasm.
Dommett then posted a video of the moment on his Instagram with the caption “Lol.” “You know, I’ve been singing for a long time,” Gray said at one point, “and now I’m a toad.”
The singer is fond of “The Masked singer”, this is in fact the third appearance of Macy Gray in a version of the show, a very popular reality series born in South Korea, in which celebrities dressed up in extravagant costumes sing for a jury who tries to guess their identity.
Gray appeared in the third season of the Australian version of the show, arriving in the sixth episode in the Atlantean costume. She made it to the season 10 finale of the American version as Sea Queen, placing fourth behind actors Janel Parrish, John Schneider, and singer Ne-Yo, who won the season.
“It’s a great show and it’s always fun with the fans,” Gray told the audience after she was unmasked, giving this advice before exiting: “Be good to yourselves, be good to each other, don’t take the piss out of anyone.”
Dommett returned to the choice of the judging panel (for the occasion made up of presenters Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall, comedian Mo Gilligan and radio DJ Maya Jama) in a recent interview with BBC Radio 2, stating: “Macy’s case is that she’s a legend, she has a recognizable voice and it’s easy that she got out because we all know it’s her, while the judges let the other person pass because we don’t know who she is yet.”
The well-known British TV host also expressed understanding for Gray’s feelings, but found Gray’s impulsive reaction very humorous, saying: “You can’t be irritated when you’re dressed as a toad. In my professional career – I love Macy, she’s amazing , has a great voice – but I’ve never witnessed anything funnier than a two-metre toad storming off.” It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”
