Luigi Viva, a show about Fabrizio De André
Luigi Viva, author of two books (“Not for a god but not even for fun – Life of Fabrizio De André” and “Falegname di parole – le canzoni e la musica di Fabrizio De André”, published by Feltrinelli), has highlighted Fabrizio De André’s great passion for jazz in his works.
In this theatrical show, the band that accompanies the narration proposes in a jazz key, under the musical direction of guitarist Luigi Masciari, who is responsible for all the new arrangements, classics such as: “La Guerra di Piero”, “Valzer per un amore”, “La città vecchia”, “Creuza de mä”, “La canzone di Marinella” “Il pescatore” “Mégu Megún” and the “Canzone dell’amore perduto”. Together with them, on stage, a formation that includes the best of the national jazz scene: Francesco Bearzatti on sax and clarinet, Alessandro Gwis on piano, Francesco Poeti on bass and Pietro Iodice on drums.
The CD containing the music from the show was released under the name Luigi Viva and Luigi Masciari for Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz; special guests Giulio Carmassi (Ex Pat Metheny) and Michael League, leader of Snarky Puppy.
“Viva De André” made its debut on July 7, 2018 at the Südtirol Jazz Festival in Bolzano. Since then, numerous sold outs: Umbria Jazz Winter #26, Umbria Jazz Winter #30 with Danilo Rea, both at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto, Blue Note Milan, Auditorium Parco della Musica Rome (special guest David Blamires formerly in the Pat Metheny Group), Fondazione Feltrinelli in Milan, Pala Cinema in Locarno for Ascona Jazz in the presence of Dori Ghezzi, etc.
“The reading – explains Luigi Viva – “together with the most important phases of his life, from his childhood, to his passion for jazz and Georges Brassens, tries to propose a De André outside the box, highlighting his civil and political commitment, thanks also to images and unpublished audio contributions in which the singer-songwriter himself tells his story”
