Lola Young reveals she turned to Alcoholics Anonymous
Lola Young spoke out of the path to recovery from addiction and the decision to participate in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings after collapsing on stage in New York last year. The artist was forced to cancel the tour after falling ill during the All Things Go Festival, announcing to fans that she would be taking a break. In a new interview with Rolling Stone USA, Young said she voluntarily checked herself into a holistic facility for two months and began attending AA meetings. “It was a decision… that I had to make, and it was sad to have to do it – he explained – what else should I have done, die? That was the reality my addiction was heading towards.”
The singer, who lives with “schizoaffective disorder And attention deficit hyperactivity disordershe said she feels “very grateful” today even for that dramatic moment. “It was… what do you call it? A breaking point that allowed me to be here today – he said – it allowed me to be better for my fans, for the future and for myself” Young also recalled how some of his songs, including “D3aler” and “Not Like That Anymore”directly address the topic of addiction. “I’m just writing down how I feel, and then afterwards I’m like, ‘Oh, fuck. I shouldn’t have said I’m a raging drug addict,'” she explained. “Then I say to myself, ‘You know what? I am. What the hell am I trying to hide?‘”.
After the break period, the singer she returned to perform at the Grammy Awards last month, where he also won his first prize. Young was also among the most nominated artists at this year’s BRIT Awardswinning in the Breakthrough Artist category. In recent weeks she took to the stage at the London Palladium for her first headlining concert of 2026. After the show she shared a message with fans: “Six months ago everything stopped for me. I knew I had to deal with some things and take some timeand this made me feel very insecure about my career. I was really afraid that I might miss my moment, a moment I’ve worked more than a decade to achieve. This is why it is a huge confirmation“. The singer concluded: “When things get dark and I’m not okayknowing that I can still return is incredibly rewarding. More rewarding than any award.”
