Last night on stage the song was introduced by the words “This is a prayer for my country” referring to the extremely troubled US election campaign with the attempt on the life of the Republican candidate Donald Trump last week on the one hand, and the withdrawal from the race for a second term at the White House of the Democratic candidate and current president Joe Biden on the other.
“Long Walk Home” It’s a song with political content that contains his thoughts on America, as explained by himself Bruce Springsteen in an interview with The New York Times at the time of its release. The New Jersey musician said it was a song about how he felt in the George W. Bush era. “In that particular song, a guy comes back to his hometown and he doesn’t recognize anything. His world has changed. The things he thought he knew, the people he thought he knew, whose ideals he had in common, are like strangers. The world he knew seemed to be totally foreign. I think that’s what’s happened in this country in the last six years.”
