Linda Lindas, very young and punk, ready for the second album
Two years after their recording debut with “Growing up” (here is our review), the Linda Lindas are ready to test themselves with a second studio albumThe next album of the very young all-female band is expected on October 11th and will be titled “No obligation“.
As a preview of the new album, Linda Lindas shared the single “All in my head” last month and in the last few hours the song “I am overwhelmed” in collaboration with Weird Al” Yankovicalso present in the song’s video clip.
In a press release, guitarist Bela Salazar explained, “‘Yo me estreso’ is a song about always being stressed, always anxious, and thinking that people are mad at you when they’re not. It was inspired by listening to a lot of corridos tumbados and duranguense artists, which we tried to incorporate into our punk style.”
While waiting to release their new album “No obligation”, which will also include two songs released last year, “Resolution/revolution” and “Too many things”, the Linda Lindas recently played in support of the concert of Rolling Stones at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and are currently engaged as opening band on the North American tour of Green Day along with Smashing Pumpkins and Rancid.
For the very young team everything has practically gone in the right direction thanks to a live video of the song “Racist, sexist boy”, shared online in May 2021 and then went viral on social media. Capable of gathering consensus from artists of the caliber of Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, the band It struck not only because of its tender age of its musicians, but above all thanks to the power and fury punk rock in telling with personal experiences. Giving voice to all their impulses as little riot grrrls, 13-year-old drummer and singer Mila de la Garza, guitarists Bela Salazar, 19, and 17-year-old Lucia de la Garza, with 16-year-old bassist Eloise Wong, form a concentrate of vitality, ambition, adolescent rebellion, anger and reflective attitude. Launching themselves into wild punk rock races to shout out anxieties, thoughts or feminist and anti-discrimination messages, the Linda Lindas They follow the example of scene veterans like Bikini Kill and, while not overturning a genre or introducing any great novelties, “Growing up” was only the beginning of their journey. For this reason, “No obligation” will surely be a tough test for the expectations that precede it.
