Liam Gallagher, a second album with John Squire?

The Sun, a British tabloid, prefacing the article with an eloquent “a source told me that…”, claims that Liam Gallagher is considering the possibility of a second album in collaboration with Chris Squire, guitarist of the Stone Roses. The two have already released an album together, in March 2025, which was at number one in the British charts (Rockol reviewed it here) and they also went on tour to promote it.

According to “the source”, the idea was born when the two musicians met in Manchester for the funeral of Mani, the bassist of the Stone Roses. And its realization would be conditioned by Gallagher’s commitments with Oasis.

Just out of curiosity, here’s what “the source” would have said to the Sun journalist:

«Liam and John are very close friends and talk regularly. John told Liam that he had a batch of songs ready to record and that he would love to have him on board.
Even though Oasis is Liam’s priority, he doesn’t want to take a year off from music.
Since going solo in 2017, he has released new music almost every year. Liam was proud of what he and John created in the studio and is open to making a second record if he can find the time to make it work.”

The pair’s debut album was written entirely by Squire.

Despite having written songs in Oasis and as a solo artist, Liam has always maintained that he is satisfied being a singer rather than a songwriter.
«I never tried to write songs to compete with my brother or to obtain publishing rights. Sometimes you play guitar at home and something happens. I write a song and it’s over there, but it’s never been an obsession of mine. I’m not an author. I prefer to sing the songs. I don’t care if I never write another song again – as long as I can sing it, that’s all that matters.”
