Lana Del Rey explains why her country album wasn’t released
He announced it in January. It was supposed to come out in September. Practically two months have passed and there is still not even a shadow of “Lasso” in sight. What happened to Lana Del Rey’s long-awaited country breakthrough album? The American pop star has finally broken the silence surrounding the failed release of the album, trying to clarify things. He did so on the sidelines of an interview with People magazine, making it known that he had decided to follow his instincts after feeling an “energetic pause” on the project, which he consequently chose to put on stand-by.
Elusive and enigmatic, Lana Del Rey said:
I think all the songs were Americana genre and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere will be like. Because I don’t usually feel like I need a break in the creative process, but if there’s an energetic break that feels almost physical, then I have to wait and I don’t know why.
In other words: Lana Del Rey seems to have blocked herself from a creative point of view. However, he did not clarify the reasons for this block:
The songs I have, I love, so I don’t want to turn them into something half-baked, even if it’s super thin. I want it to be what it was meant to be.
Lana Del Rey announced “Lasso” during her appearance at the NMPA Songwriter Awards in Los Angeles last January: “If you haven’t already noticed from our winners and our performers, the music industry is going country. We’re heading towards country. It’s slipping away.” Lana Del Rey then returned to talk about “Lasso” last August, in an interview with Vogue magazine: “I’ll release two new singles by the end of the year,” she said. But since then on “Lasso” absolute silence fell.
