Kendrick Lamar vs Drake: Rhyme War Picks Up Speed

Very shortly after the arrival of Drake's “Family Matters” Kendrick Lamar fired back with the disruptive “Meet the Grahams”. It is yet another chapter of the “civil war” in which the two heavyweights of rap are also involved who, now, between one response track and another no longer allow days to pass, but a few minutes, intensifying the clash. Family seems to be the common theme of diss tracks. Kendrick accuses Drizzy of being a “dead” father and claims he is hiding another child besides Adonis. “You lied about your son, you lied about your daughter, huh, you lied about them other kids that are out there hoping you come and recognize them,” Lamar raps.

Kendrick's third diss track of the week is easily his toughest after that “6:16 in A” and “Euphoria”. Drake also aims, metaphorically, at the heart: the main topics addressed by the rival were Kendrick's alleged domestic abuse towards his wife, the use of ghostwriters and infidelity. Drake also mentions Whitney, Kendrick's wife, having a baby with their bodyguard Kevin Free. Throughout the song, he insisted on constantly using black slang words, a way to show Kendrick that he doesn't have an exclusive say on the issue of race.

The battle between the two is not only musical, but also cultural and methodological, which is why it is exciting all rap fans worldwide: Kendrick has a way of hurting through more refined and profound words, while Drake throws it more at fun, trolling and teasing. They are really two different ways, which also reverberate in their productions, of living and rapping, as well as belonging to hip hop culture. It's a war of worlds, musically beautiful and excitingwith the hope that it never degenerates into something that is not purely musical.
