Johnny Marr he joined the Franz Ferdinand on Saturday night in Manchester for a trio of songs, including “Bigmouth Strikes Again” of the Smiths.
The Scottish indie band played at the city’s Aviva Studios on Saturday 18 January for a show that was part of Amazon Music’s City Sessions series, streamed live on Prime Video and Amazon Music’s Twitch channel.
Franz Ferdinand played songs from their career, focusing on their new album “The Human Fear”, released earlier this month. ‘Build It Up’, taken from the album, was the first song that saw them joined by Smiths guitarist Marr, quickly followed by ‘Do You Want To’, taken from the second album ‘You Could Have It So Much Better’ .
The live collaboration was completed with a version of the Smiths classic “Bigmouth Strikes Again”, first released on their 1986 album “The Queen Is Dead”.
Obviously the internet was filled with posts and videos of the event.
Marr himself commented on his appearance with the band after the show, writing on Instagram: “With love and best wishes to my friends @franz_ferdinand for a great time and a great show.”
Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos also took to Instagram after the show, posting two photos of him and Marr sharing a moment backstage, to the mandolin notes of “Please Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” by Smiths.
