John Lydon vs Kneecap: “They need a nice knee!”.
After what happened with i Kneecap Also John Lydon He lashed out against the trio stating that according to him the members “need a nice knee”.
The Irish hip-hop trio was at the center of controversy after their appearance to Coachella 2025where the organizers of the Festival would have “caught by surprising” by projecting the slogan “Fuck Israel, Free Palestine” on the screen behind them, guiding the public choirs and keeping a speech on their support in Gaza.
The repercussions continued when the videos of previous live shows were re -emerged, showing the members of the group while supporting Hamas and Hezbollah and invited fans to “kill their local deputy”. The shows of the shows have become the subject of attention by the anti -terrorism police of the United Kingdom, while the Dachella Set divider led to ask Sharon Osbourne to revoke their work visa.
Now, the former head of the sex pistols John Lydon intervened on the situation and said that the members of the group “need a nice knee”, referring to the band’s name.
Speaking at Good Morning Britain (Gmb, the morning talk show on British TV ITV), the GDP frontman attacked the band for their comments on parliamentarians, saying: “If you support the death of another human being, then you have no cause. You are my enemies from here on for the rest of your mediocre existence”.
He continued: “You shouldn’t speak like this, you shouldn’t get angry next. Apart from this, maybe they need a nice knee!”.
The term “Kneecapping” is used in Northern Ireland and refers to a form of violence perpetrated by self -proclaimed vigilantes – often paramilitary – who do justice on their own and punish those who accuse antisocial behaviors by shooting them on their knees.
Also in the interview with Gmb, Lydon accused the trio of wanting to copy sex pistols and their way of making controversy. “I think they are following what they think is the path of sex pistols,” he said. “It’s useful, it’s not true, when you have the Financial Times that supports you.”
After the declarations in favor of terrorist organizations, the investigation of the anti -terrorism police on the Kneecap is underway and none of the members have been accused.
The trio denied supporting Hamas or Hezbollah and promoting violence against deputies. “We are unequivocal: we do not support and we have never supported Hamas or Hezbollah. We condemn all attacks on civilians, always. It is never good. We know it better than anyone else, given the history of our nation,” they shared.
“We also reject any suggestions that can make you think that we try to encourage violence against any deputy or individual. Never. A movie extract, deliberately removed from any context, is now exploited and exploited, as if it were a call to action”.
Speaking with NME, the band took a position on the wrong ideas about their message, claiming not to tolerate violence. “Obviously I can’t speak for what happened before me in Ireland,” Chara said, sharing his sympathy for what passed the past generations. “But we don’t support violence, because it no longer makes sense.”
Among the artists who took the defenses of Kneecap and support the “freedom of expression”, there are Pulp, Fontaines DC, Idles, Massive Attack, Paul Weller, Primal Scream, Enter Shikari, English Teacher, The Pogues, Lankum, Toddla T, Sleaford Mods, Thin Lizzy, Tom Morello, Brian Eno, one of the most groups, one of the groups. Active in supporting the trio are the Massive Attack, who for decades have supported Palestine with conviction and since 1999 have boycott the performances in Israel.
But Sharon Osbourne, after asking to revoke the permits to the trio to perform, attacked the band again calling it “pathetic”, “not educated” and “full of hatred” and inviting her to be more similar to the U2 bono in its approach to activism. Members are said to be looking for new sponsors to renew their visa for the next shows, after being abandoned by their booking agent.
In the United Kingdom, the situation led to requests from parliamentarians so that the Kneecap are expelled from the festivals line-ups such as TRNSMT and Glastonbury. Several shows have also been deleted due to the controversy.
Last month a place was canceled in the Eden Project line-up in Cornwall and, although the Kneecap had announced a show in Plymouth for the same day, this was soon canceled, as well as five concerts in Germany. In response to the cancellation of the Plymouth show, the band shared the details of three other shows in another place in the city.
