Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Brian May of Queen and Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath met together yesterday afternoon, February 22, for the inauguration of the Gibson Garage, the new Gibson guitar flagship store, in London.

The store, located at 61-62 Eastcastle Street in central London, will officially open to the public tomorrow, Saturday 24 February.

During the event, which featured a special “In Conversation” event with the legendary guitarist of the “Stairway to Heaven” band, as well as a live performance by singer-songwriter James Bay, Gibson CEO/President Cesar Gueikian announced that the company has entered into a collaborative partnership with Page.

“Jimmy Page deserves a very important chapter in Gibson’s history,” explained Cesar Gueikian: “We think of Jimmy as an ambassador emeritus of guitars and a musical pioneer in the birth and evolution of rock! In many ways, Jimmy is responsible for the success, continued innovation and evolution of Gibson’s post-golden era. We are grateful for Jimmy’s trust in the Gibson team and look forward to honoring him by bringing this epic collaboration to life.”

“When I met Cesar and he explained what Gibson’s future would look like, I knew I had to be involved,” Page said in turn: “There’s a certain spirit; After seeing the people who worked in the factories and forming a bond with them, I knew that picking up that Les Paul Custom and Doubleneck all those years ago was definitely the right decision.”

“It’s really fantastic that Gibson has chosen London to create a new Gibson Garage,” added the former Ozzy Osbourne associate in Black Sabbath to express his thoughts on the new Gibson store. Brian May echoed this: “The new Gibson Garage in London will be just what we all dreamed a guitar shop should be: a place where a young musician can feel welcome and try out the best instruments, amplifiers and equipment.”

Just last November, the Queen guitarist and Tony Iommi were the protagonists together of the documentary made in the United Kingdom by Sky Arte entitled “Greatest Guitar Riff” and dedicated to the most famous riffs of all time. May and Iommi together chatted about the riff of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”, of which they played a passage together.
