Jeff Lynne will end up working in the studio after ELO
Jeff Lynne confirmed that the end of the Electric Light Orchestrato it will not coincide with the end of his musical career.
In October he announced that the group would play the last concert in Hyde Park, London, on 13 July 2025, marking the end of the band he revived in 2001 and began touring regularly in 2014.
He will be 77 when they take their final bow. “I’m happy with what I did and the audience reactions to the shows and the music have been amazing,” Lynne told Mojo in a recent interview.
“This is not a goodbye to music. I’m excited to get back into the studio full time, which is what I love!”
He didn’t reveal details of his future plans, but as for his upcoming live activities with the band he hinted that there could be something special in store for the crowds attending the five farewell concerts in Birmingham, Manchester and finally London.
“It will definitely be an emotional show for me,” he said. “It was amazing to travel the world and to this day, at every concert, I am always surprised and delighted by the crowds and the energy they bring. I will miss it.” He added: “Of course we will play all the songs that the fans want to hear. As for surprises, these are the last concerts, so who knows what can happen?”
In 2019 Lynne, known for his love of studio work, admitted that he didn’t expect to have so much fun on tour. “I’m having the time of my life,” he told Variety. “Just because I don’t jump up and down and do somersaults and stuff doesn’t mean I’m not having a lot of fun, because I am. I just sing and play, which I think is enough, because I try to make it sound the best I’m trying to recreate the sound that I imagined ELO would have forever, from day one until now.”
In addition to ELO Lynne brings the project to life Traveling Wilburysa “supergroup” with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty And Roy Orbisonwith which he made two luxury pop-rock albums in ’88 and ’90, only the first with Roy Orbison who died in 1988 after the release of his debut.
In addition to that experience Lynne writes (with Tom Petty) and plays in “You got It” the single which, unfortunately posthumously, marks Roy Orbison’s return to global success. The song was included in the album “Mystery Girl”, released a few days before his death, in which a song also appears, “She’s a Mystery to Me”, signed by Bono and The Edge.
In 1990, in light of these results, Lynne was asked, but he refused, by Guns n’ Roses to produce the song “November Rain”. However, he will be the producer of the individual gods Beatles “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” included in the “Anthology 1” published in 1995.
He returned to the scene in 2015 as producer and co-author of “What Ya Gotta Do” contained in the album “Get Up”, by the Canadian rocker Bryan Adams
Jeff Lynne also has four solo albums to his credit between 1990 and 2019 in addition to ELO’s extensive discography
