Jay Weinberg (ex Slipknot) and the return on stage with Springsteen

Last June 22nd the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Barcelona hosted the second date scheduled in the Catalonian city of the current tour of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. During the concert the drummer Jay Weinbergformerly of Slipknot and now with Suicidal Tendencies, took the stage to replace his father Max Weinberga historic member of Springsteen’s band, in the performance of the song “Radio Nowhere“.

Jay Weinberg, who in 2009 had already been called to play in place of his father during some stages of the “Working on a Dream Tour” of the New Jersey singer-songwriter, told in a recent interview for the Brazilian website “Headbangers News” What was it like to play for the Boss again?.

As reported by “Blabbermouth”, during the chat, the former drummer of the masked heavy metal band initially discussed the differences between playing with Slipknot, Suicidal Tendencies and Springsteen. “It’s interesting, because, yes, they are very different styles of music, but to me it’s vital music – it’s music for life. The passion is the same,” Jay Weinberg said. “I don’t make too many distinctions between them. It all seems to come from the same place inside me. So, I put the same ferocity, the same intensity and the same passion into it with Suicidal Tendencies that I put in Slipknot and for Bruce.” He added:

“Having the opportunity to play with Bruce again in Barcelona was incredible. Bruce basically said, ‘Saturday night in Barcelona, we’d like to bring back some of that energy that you brought to ‘Radio Nowhere.'” For me, it was a real honor, because I hadn’t played with them in 15 years. Also because that’s my family; there’s nothing more family than them. And I really love everyone involved in that tour. I get to see my dad and his friends become superheroes on stage. And it’s just an amazing opportunity.”

He concluded: “For me, it’s all connected in some way. I can definitely find the differences. But being in the middle, I can’t really feel too many of them. I feel like it’s as natural for me to go on stage and play with Bruce and the E Street Band as it is to go on stage with Suicidal Tendencies the next day. It all comes from the same spirit.”

After announcing last November that he would no longer be a member of Slipknot, Jay Weinberg announced in March that he would be joining the Californian punk-hardcore-metal band Suicidal Tendencies, with whom he is currently on a tour that also stopped in Italy on July 2.
