Jasper Llewellyn (Caroline) releases solo “For The Teacher”

“For The Teacher” is the first solo single from Caroline member Jasper Llewellyn. The song is released by Rough Trade and is accompanied by a clip directed by Leo Benavides.

As for the song, it is a melancholic song that lasts more than seven minutes and has well-differentiated parts that intertwine to create a spiritual piece that begins with piano and ends timidly exploding with greater instrumentation.

About this song, Llewellyn himself notes: “I started writing ‘For the Teacher’ years ago, and some parts were added just before recording. Like all my songs, its theme gradually emerged from a mixture of sounds, atmospheres, lyrics and other elements during the writing, recording and mixing process. The song is a mosaic of various ideas and eras of my song writing spanning more than five years. However, a common thread connects all the parts: the ideals, how we hold onto them and how they remain. out of reach. These ideals encompass spiritual aspects, friendship, romance, ethics, and the desire to be a positive force in the world. The song explores the paradox of pursuing something beyond our current state, only for it to seem to move further away as we reach for it.

‘For the Teacher’ is, in many ways, an offering to my Buddhist teacher, Maitreyabandhu. His poetry forms the basis of the first two minutes of the song (excluding the radio-edited version). His text comes from a beautiful long poem in book format, a funeral eulogy to his own teacher, Bhante Sangharakshita. Appropriately expressing your feelings toward someone who has had such a profound and unique impact on your life is a challenge. This song recognizes the master-disciple relationship and pays tribute to both masters.”
