Is Luke Combs the greatest country performer of our time?

Luke Combs is a name that in Europe – apart from Great Britain – and therefore also in Italy, is practically unknown, but in the United States with all his albums, from his debut album “This one’s for you” of 2017 until “Fathers & sons” released in 2024, he reached the top of the sales charts and is now most likely the greatest exponent of country music. Naturally his songs explore the themes dear to the public of this musical genre, connecting first and foremost to the ups and downs that characterize everyone’s life, starting from the ups and downs of love and family.

Later this week Combs will release his sixth album, “The way I am”and everything leaves us thinking that even with the new songs he can do bingo and reaffirm his presence in the honor of the news and the charts. The 36 year old Luke Combscataloged under the heading country, comes from the southern United States, to be precise from the state of North Carolina, and has as its base of operations the capital of this genre of music (and not only this genre) Nashville. After releasing a triptych of EPs, in 2016, he released his first single, “Hurricane”which is received positively by country radio listeners. The other singles taken from the album had the same fate, “This one’s for you” (June 2017) set a pair of country chart records. The song is also included on the album “When it rains it pours” which, to date, has over one billion two hundred thousand views on Spotify.

Combs’ second album, “What You See Is What You Get” it was published in November 2019 and confirmed all the good impressions aroused at the debut. Seven singles from the album reached number one on the Billboard country chart, while the album reached number one on the general chart in the United States. Two featuring appear on the album: con Eric Church and the duo Brooks & Dunn.

In June 2022 Luke Combs releases his third album, “Growin’ up”which was named Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards. Among the peculiarities of the album we highlight a duet with Miranda Lambert and it’s news that, for the first time, one of his singles, “The Kind of Love We Make”fails to reach first position (stopping at second) in the Country Airplay chart.

Less than a year later, in March 2023, the Carolina musician releases a new album, “Gettin’ old”. An album conceived and recorded together with the previous one “Growin’ up”as the consecutiveness of the two titles suggests. Even the first song in the tracklist unites the two titles in a single song, “Growin’ up and gettin’ old”. The link between the two albums is also established by the covers which are closely linked to each other. The album features a cover of “Fast Car”the huge hit of 1988 by Tracy Chapman.

The fifth album of his musical saga arrives in June 2024, “Fathers & sons”. The album, released two days before Father’s Day in the United States, allows a Luke Combs to commercially capitalize on the opportunity to partner with greeting card company American Greetings by allowing the company to use the album’s song lyrics in their virtual greeting cards. Now we await the release of “The way I am”.
