Iron Maiden, Steve Harris is not thinking about retiring yet

As Iron Maiden are set to resume their “Run For Your Lives” world tour, bassist Steve Harris recently said he has no plans to stop anytime soon despite being close to turning 70.

In a new interview for “Kerrang!,” Harris said:

“I’m not thinking about retiring yet. But we all know that, sooner or later, the moment will come when you are forced to do so for one reason or another. I continue to keep fit by playing football, tennis and so on, but you never know what awaits you around the corner. That’s why you have to make the most of the moment while you can, go out and enjoy every concert for what it is. I’ve been saying this for ten years, but today it’s more true than ever.”

During the stoppage of Iron Maiden’s tour, which will resume in May and on June 17th will bring the band back to Italy for the first metal concert at the San Siro stadium in Milan, Steve Harris was engaged in a series of live shows in clubs with his historic parallel project British Lion. Understandably, given the amount of commitments, the bassist confessed that he was “afraid to stop, afraid to slow down”. He added: “But playing shows like these brings back that old feeling. In many ways they’re very similar. It’s that feeling of being out there fighting for the band, trying to bring in as many people as possible, proving yourself every night to get exactly where you want to be.”

On the same topic, in recent months guitarist Dave Murray had reiterated that he and his bandmates will know when it’s time to stop, and on “Music Radar” he underlined: “For me there’s nothing worse than seeing a band you love on stage when it seems like they shouldn’t be there to do it anymore. We’re almost reaching the seventy-year mark, but I think we’ll all know when the time comes. It will be a mutual decision.”

Within the band, linga data drummer Nicko McBrain has already made the decision to retire from Iron Maiden’s live activities, playing his last show on December 7, 2024 at Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The place behind the drums then went to Simon Dawson, drummer of British Lion.
