Interpol are back: here’s “See Out Loud”
The Interpol they are officially back, and they do so by looking forward, without denying their past. During the March 19th date at the Audio of São Paulothe band surprised the audience by including ‘See Out Loud’, a new song never performed before, in the setlist. A debut that breaks the routine of recent sets, until then built on classics and fan favourites, and which marks the concrete beginning of a new phase. The piece moves along familiar yet refreshed coordinates: pulsating rhythm, rising tension and an energy which recalls records like “Antics” and “El Pintor”. Paul Banks leads the song with his usual intensity, while Daniel Kessler carves out a rare vocal space, inserted in a synthetic interlude that opens to a rock crescendo. It’s not just new: it’s a clear clue to the direction of the next album.
Already in 2024, Banks had anticipated to NME a return to a more direct and collective approach: writing in the room, continuous exchange, less solitary construction and more band dynamics. The result, apparently, it’s a more “upbeat” and high-energy sound, something that “See Out Loud” seems to confirm in no uncertain terms. After years of consolidating their style, Interpol therefore seem ready to restart the engine, aiming for immediacy and impact without losing their identity. A true return, more than just a new chapter.
