Imagine seeing a surprise concert by Robert Plant
How many would they like to find on stage Robert Plant surprise? Ten years ago, it happened to some lucky spectator. Herefordshire events venue owner Gary Waring looked back on the last ten years of his work just before retirement… including the day the band frontman Led Zeppelin showed up for a surprise performance.
When he redeveloped the site on the left bank of the River Wye, between Wales and England, in 2014, he never imagined it would host a guest of that caliber. Plant showed up to support Deborah Bonhamthe sister of the band’s former drummer John. “Bonzo”, originally from Redditch in Worcestershire, died in 1980 aged 32. His sister Deborah is well known on the local music circuit.
“There were rumors that he was going to show up, but we couldn’t say anything because it was just a rumor and, you know, if we had spread the information, he probably wouldn’t have shown up,” Mr. Waring says, reflecting on Plant’s appearance, in 2016. “It was a very, very low-key meeting. He wasn’t the most sociable in the worldI have to admit, but it was just amazing and very, very exciting.”
