How “Thunder Road” changed Lady Gaga’s life

It is well known that Lady Gaga is a fan of the Boss – so much so that she involved Clarence Clemons in “Edge of Glory” for “Born This way”, one of the last recordings by the legendary saxophonist of the E Street Band, who also shot the video clip for the song a few days before his death in 2011.

In a long interview granted to Rolling Stone, the singer chose the 10 songs that defined her life, and among these she chose none other than “Thunder road”, perhaps the best known and loved by Springsteen fans together with “Thunder road”, explaining how this song in particular is linked to her origins and the relationship with her father: “I think I fell in love with New York again thanks to Bruce’s music”, says Gaga, who explains that listening to it “I felt like I was learning something about my father… because my father is of New Jersey, like Bruce. It was the way he told his life. The record (“Born to run”) is a kind of long poem. It has a unique imprint, it’s different from all other American music. I think this is the moment when I understood how music can help you know better not only yourself, but also someone else. In a way, I think Bruce is singing this, as if Mary wants to leave everyone behind in this story.
