Green Day banned from two Las Vegas radio stations

Green Day’s music will no longer be broadcast on two Los Angeles radio stations. The decision was made by local stations KOMP 92.3 and X107.5 after the frontman of the Californian band Billie Joe Armstrong called the City of Angels “the worst shit place in America”.

The comment from the friend of Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool comes due to his personal dissatisfaction resulting from the upcoming move of his beloved Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas. The A’s will leave Oakland after the 2024 season and, after playing the first three years in Sacramento, will move permanently to Las Vegas for the 2028 season. Armstrong had his say on the issue during Green Day’s concert at Oracle Park in San Francisco on September 20th.

In a comment to team owner John Fisher, the musician said from the stage: “We don’t take shit from people like that fucking John Fisher. I hate Las Vegas, it’s the worst shit place in America.”

Those in Las Vegas didn’t take too kindly to the personal attack on the city, and the two radio stations then decided to ban Green Day’s music for this reason. On Instagram, KOMP 92.3 said in a post that it had “deleted all Green Day songs” from its playlist. Another Las Vegas station, X107.5, posted on its website that “Sin City heard it “loud and clear” and X107.5 isn’t buying it.”

“In response to Armstrong’s inflammatory comments,” the website reads, “station bans all Green Day music, effective immediately.”
