Goodbye to Peter Sinfield, lyricist and composer of King Crimson
He died at the age of 80 Peter Sinfieldcomposer and lyricist of King Crimson. The news was published by KingCrimson and their leader Robert Fripp on social media. The cause of death was not revealed, but it appears that Sinfield had had some health problems for years.
Peter Sinfield was crucial to the success of the King Crimsonco-founded the band and was responsible for choosing the name and, as reported by the English magazine NME, finding their first rehearsal space in the basement of a bar on Fulham Palace Road.
It was his initiative to entrust the creation of the artwork for the cover of the first album.KingCrimson from 1969, “In The Court Of The Crimson King” (read the review here) to the friend Barry Godber.
From 1969 to 1971, he wrote the group’s lyrics and assumed the role of artistic director commissioning the album covers “Court”, “In The Wake Of Poseidon”, “Lizard” And “Islands” (read the review here), which he co-produced with Robert Fripp. Sinfield left the band a year later, after Fripp asked him to leave, but continued to produce. He produced the eponymous first album Roxy Musicin 1973 he released his solo album, “Still”.
In 1973 he collaborated with Emerson, Lake & Palmercontributing to the texts of “Benny The Bouncer” And “Karn Evil 9 3rdImpressions”songs included in their fourth studio album “Brain Salad Surgery”. He worked with the British trio on the album lyrics “Works Volume 1”, “Works Volume 2” And “Love Beach”. In 1975, he co-wrote with Greg Lake“I believe inFather Christmas” which reached second place in the charts in Great Britain.
