Goodbye to Moya Brennan, singer of Clannad
Moya Brennan, singer of Clannad, has died at the age of 73: the family has announced that the artist passed away at her home in Donegal: according to what was reported by the Guardian, in recent years she had been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for some time.
He founded Clannad together with his brothers Pól and Ciarán and his uncles Noel and Pádraig Ó Dúgáin in 1970: they had become one of the symbolic groups of Irish folk, initially linked mainly to Gaelic, and then opened up to a wider audience in the 1980s, with “Theme From Harry’s Game”, a 1982 song written for a television series set during the Northern Irish conflict, which entered the top 5 in Ireland and the United Kingdom and especially with “In A Lifetime”, a 1985 duet with Bono from U2 – perhaps their most famous song. In the 1990s they achieved international success, winning the 1998 Grammy for best new age album with “Landmarks”.
Moya Brennan had also started a solo career starting in 1992 with the album “Máire”, releasing numerous records and participating in soundtracks, including “Titanic” and “King Arthur”.
