Giovanni Lindo Ferretti’s debut as a cartoonist
Giovanni Lindo Ferretti He made his debut in the world of comics with an autobiography that tells his human and artistic story through his own texts and drawings by Michele Petrucci.
The idea of “Tanno”, this is the title of the volume announced last summer, was proposed to Ferretti (CCCP – Faithful to the line, CSI and PGR) by the designer Michele Petrucci (already the author of a biography of Reinhold Messner and of the historical fiction on Vitruvius). The two find themselves working for a few months in close contact to produce a 112-page volume that analyzes the facts of the Emilian artist’s journey: his studies, his faith, the discovery of politics in ’68, the journey in Berlin, the friendship with Zamboni, the birth of CCCP and everything that happened after and that had to happen.
With “Tanno” Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, a charismatic figure, tells, starting from his childhood memories in the Reggio Emilia Apennines, a story in which the stages of his best-known life – music, public thought, poetry – are intertwined with a more intimate and spiritual dimension, inspired by the places of his childhood and his great love for horses.
In fact, Tanno is the affectionate name of Tancredi, one of the horses to which the author was most attached, and, precisely through the parable of his relationship with the animal, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti takes us to discover his inner world and his deep bond with one’s land and one’s origins. The beloved horse was also sung in “Io e Tancredi”, a song contained in the album “Gothic Line“, second album (1996) of the Consorzio Suonatori Indipendenti (CSI) project
“Tanno” is a story about life and death. A bildungsroman that revolves around the presence of horses, animals that, says Ferretti, have always accompanied, guided and regulated his life: “Raising animals teaches you to raise men. If you are careful with animals you will also be careful with humans” writes Ferretti.
With “Tanno” Ferretti decided to tackle a language new to him, that of comics, relying on the style of Michele Petruccitoday among the most important authors of the Italian comics scene. Together they retraced and synthesized, each with their own style, human and artistic history of a very character criticized but also a lot loved. This is demonstrated by the affection and interest that the public (even the young ones) have shown in their recent live return CCCPwith Ferretti, Zamboni, Fatur and Annarella (all present in the graphic novel) together again. But even before that, it was demonstrated by the influx of public, between history and curiosity, to the Reggio Emilia exhibition which began the return to the scene of the band symbolizing Italian punk. Return long awaited and hoped for by many.
The graphic novel, published by the publishing house caldaPress, will premiere at Lucca Comics & Games 2024. Giovanni Lindo Ferretti and Michele Petrucci will meet the public for two signs copies: the first the October 30th at the Pala Dediche of the Doge’s Palaceand the second the October 31st at the Pala Dediche di San Francescoat the end of “Tanno – a private matter”, the panel that will see them protagonists at the San Francesco Auditorium.
As the editorial director of the publishing house states, Andrea G. Ciccarelli: “FordulaPress it is one of the most important books of this year, a graphic novel that leads us to collaborate with a great singer – better: singer, as he defines himself – and an artist that we love very much. A magnetic and disruptive personality who, once again, decided to get involved with this book full of amazement, effort and tenderness.”
The volume will be available in preview as part of Lucca Comics and Games 2024, while the release in bookstores, comics shops, online and on the weldingpress.com website, is scheduled for November 15th.
After his return with CCCP Giovanni Lindo Ferretti continues his solo career and debuted on 18 October at the Tatro Olimpico in Vicenza with a new show entitled “multitude in cadence, striking” which deals with themes of identity and transformation through a performance that combines voice, percussion and theatrical ritual. At his side Simon Beneventian expert percussionist.
This is how Giovanni Lindo Ferretti himself describes the show: “an ancient stage in a bold urban perspective – a body/voice, a shadow, percussion – tone rhythm frequency – beating one’s chest: a pain that cannot pacify – beating one’s forehead: amazement never satisfied, renewed – 70 years, biblical echoes”. And again: “Rituality in the form of theater, I can’t say more: we are not a theater company that is staging a new show. Alas, now you too can do nothing but trust. What must happen, let it happen.”
