Gazzelle’s bedroom songs

Flavio Bruno Pardini in art Gazelles he was born in Rome on 7 December 1989, thirty-five years ago. He has four albums to his credit: “Superbeat” (2017), “Punk” (read the review here) (2018), “Okay” (read the review here) (2021) and “In” (read the review here) (2023). To celebrate his birthday we went there to reread the review of his debut album written for us by Marco Jeannin.

Gazzelle is a Roman singer-songwriter about whom little or nothing is known (it’s better this way, I’m in favor of mystery in music because it makes poetry grow in me) who offers a very simple but effective (indie) synth-pop, not even too covertly along the lines than what has already been produced by the Calcutta phenomenon, yet capable of carving out its own dimension by pushing on the more explicitly synthetic component of the Eighties. Produced for Maciste Dischi by Igor Pardini and Flavio Pardini at Il Cubo Rosso Recording in Rome, with the artistic supervision of Leo Pari, “Superbattito” is a work in step with the times, with remarkable singing ability and the right shot.

“Superbattito” is a record that I wrote in one go within a few months, just over a year ago. It speaks of infinite stories, of distant lights. Tiny moments left somewhere deep in the evening. Loves kept safe so they don’t wither. It’s a record that exposes me a little and covers me a little. Like a short blanket. Like when I hug my dog.”

Eight o’clock songs (in the noble sense) in the lineup they have everything to please: alluring and beautiful sticky melodies, some even melancholic, supported by unpretentious arrangements but designed with a very specific stylistic idea. Calcutta aside, “Dèmodè” calls into question Contessa ei Cani while “Quella te” seems like a piece by Coez, but I would say that listen to the various “Meltinpot” or the beautiful opening “Non sei tu”, there is little to do who knows such as reference speeches. Despite the references, however, they are all pieces that work well regardless, in the sense that today this way of making music works and is liked, but only as long as it is done properly.

Here, in this sense Superbattito” is a record made exactly as it should be. Row that is a pleasure, perfect for the approaching summer, to be tackled with shots of “cotton candy”.
