From Subsonica to Bts: the records to listen to this week

The record week that starts today brings with it a series of releases that cross different styles and generations. Among the most anticipated albums are the new works by Subsonica, Anna Calvi, BTS, Chiello, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi and Nayt: six projects which, between electronic, rock, global pop, songwriting and Italian rap, tell different ways of understanding music today. A varied overview that reflects the energy and transformations of the contemporary scene. Here are our recommendations.

Subsonica – “Rare Earths”

On March 20th Subsonica return with “Terre Rare”, the Turin band’s eleventh studio album and first unreleased work after a few years of recording silence. The album was anticipated by some singles such as “Radio Mogadishu” and “Il tempo in me” and presents itself as a sonic journey between real and imaginary geographies, but also within the present time, with its tensions and possibilities. Musically the group explores more organic sounds than in the past, also the result of instruments collected during a trip to the other side of the Mediterranean. The release comes at a symbolic moment: in 2026 the band celebrates thirty years of career. The project will be accompanied by a series of special concerts in Turin, designed as a celebration of the journey that began in the nineties.

BTS – “Arirang”

It is perhaps the most anticipated international album release of 2026: “Arirang” marks the return of BTS, the boy band symbol of k-pop, which has broken record after record, after almost four years of hiatus linked to solo activities and military service – it is compulsory, in South Korea – to which the members had to perform. The album contains 14 songs and sees the creative involvement of all seven members of the group in writing and production. The title recalls the famous traditional Korean song “Arirang”, chosen to underline universal themes such as love, nostalgia and cultural identity. International names such as Ryan Tedder, Diplo, Flume and Kevin Parker also participate in the production. How many more records will they break this time around?

Nayt – “I am an individual”

Nayt’s new album is the tenth recording chapter of the Roman rapper, stage name of William Mezzanotte. The work arrives approximately a year and a half after “Lettera Q” and revolves around a profound reflection on personal identity and the different facets that make up an individual. Among the songs present there is also “A man”, published the previous October, which introduces some of the central questions of the project. The album also features “Prima che”, the piece with which Nayt participated in the Sanremo Festival, produced by Zef. The artist thus continues to move between urban and songwriting, maintaining direct and highly introspective writing.

Anna Calvi – “Is This All There Is?”

Anna Calvi releases a project consisting of four songs built entirely on important collaborations. Guests include artists such as Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson, Perfume Genius and the National’s Matt Berninger. The launch single is “God’s Lonely Man”, created with Iggy Pop. The EP represents the first chapter of a trilogy that explores the theme of identity and personal transformation, also inspired by the artist’s motherhood and the change of perspective that resulted from it. The work mixes rock, art-pop suggestions and reinterpretations of other people’s songs, such as the cover of “I See a Darkness” by Bonnie “Prince” Billy.

Chiello – “Agony”

«Let me melt in agony», sings Chiello in “Ti pensiero semper”, the song presented in the competition at the 2026 Sanremo Festival. The verse has become a meme. Now “Agonia” gives the title to the new album by the former FSK Satellite, as the trap trio that launched Rocco Model was called (it is the real name of the Lucanian singer-songwriter). The album contains 11 songs, including the same “Ti pensiero semper”, which wink a bit at the Italian indie rock of the 2000s and a bit at the songwriting. Tommaso Ottomano, former right-hand man (and producer) of Lucio Corsi, also contributed to the songs.

Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi – “And then choose your words carefully”

After the La Crus reunion, celebrated in 2024 with a new album (“Proteggimi da questo vovo”) and a tour, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi returns as a soloist. He does it with “And then choose carefully the words”, which arrives three years after the singer-songwriter’s previous work, “What will remain / A wrong story”. The album was born from a long and troubled journey, which began before the pandemic and developed over time through shared reflection and writing. The album was preceded by the single “Veloce” and a mini-EP released in January. The production is curated by Leziero Rescigno, with recordings and arrangements by Lele Battista.
