Liam Gallagher: “Fuck the Hall of Fame”

From Ian Brown to Liam Gallagher: tributes to Gary “Mani” Mounfield

From Liam Gallagher to New Order: British rock remembers Gary “Mani” Mounfield, the bassist of the Stone Roses and Primal Scream, who died at the age of 63. “It is with sadness in my heart that I must announce the passing of my brother”, wrote his brother Greg yesterday, surprising fans of the two groups and of rock made in the UK more generally, of which Mani was a central figure. This is demonstrated by the words of the many protagonists of the scene who have been paying homage to the bassist for hours on social media. “He was my hero,” Liam Gallagher tweeted. “The greatest bass player and friend we could have ever asked for,” Ian Brown remembered him.

“We are shocked by the news of his passing,” New Order wrote on X, formerly Twitter:

The cause of Gary “Mani” Mounfield’s untimely death has not yet been disclosed. Two years ago the musician lost his wife, killed by cancer. Two days before her passing, Mani had written on social media: “Today marks the second anniversary of my Imelda’s passing. I miss her every day, but we have learned to accept her presence in the ‘next room’. We can’t see or hear you, but we feel your presence every day.”
