Fatboy Slim says he’s lost ‘passion for making music’
While Fatboy Slim continues to be active as a DJ, it has now been twenty years since his last studio album, 2004’s “Palookaville”. According to his recent statements, the artist has made it known that no change is to be expected off course since he admitted he had lost his “passion for creating music”.
In a new interview with the Sun, the 61-year-old musician discussed the current state of his music career and noted that his 2024 singles, “Bus Stop Please” and “Role Model,” were made “just to accompaniment”.
“The fact is, you can’t make music if you’re not absolutely passionate about it and if it doesn’t drive you from the moment you wake up in the morning,” said Fatboy Slim: “I just don’t feel that way anymore.” He continued: “I still have a strong passion for DJing and organizing events, but I’ve kind of lost interest in creating music. For five years, I tried to force myself, telling myself, ‘You should do this.’ But then I thought, ‘Well, everyone likes my DJ job and I find it more fulfilling, so I’ll do that.’”
The artist, however, has not completely extinguished hopes for a new album and stated: “I hope that one day the passion will return.”
After the last album “Palookaville” in 2004, Fatboy Slim has – among other things – collaborated with David Byrne on the 2010 project “Here Lies Love”, which was later adapted into a musical.
In 2025 the artist will be engaged in a tour that will also bring him back to Italy, for a date at the Duel Club in Naples on February 16th.
