Farewell to Mísia. The singer was 69 years old

Daughter of a Portuguese father and a Catalan mother Mysiaregistered as Susana Maria Alfonso de Aguiar, was born in Porto in 1955 and lived for a long time between Madrid and Barcelona (where she worked as a cabaret dancer) before returning to Portugal and dedicating herself to innovating the style of traditional fado.

Her innovative spirit was evident since her first revolutionary album, in 1991, which has the title “Mísia”, her stage name “stolen” from Misia Sert, a Russian musician and model who was a muse to many artists in Paris in the early 20th century. But Misia is also a historical region located in what is now north-western Turkey.

His latest album, “Animal Sentimental” is from 2022. In between, thirty years of international career (rich in 11 albums) with original songs, sometimes on poetic texts by authors such as Fernando Pessoa or António Lobo Antunes, combined with personal reinterpretations of the classics of Portuguese song, especially by Amália Rodrigues, as in the album “Para Amália”, from 2015.

However, Mísia has not only moved in the field of fado but has extended her artistic activity in the common Mediterranean root reaching as far as Neapolitan song and in 2010 she took part in the film “Passione”, by John Turturro, in which she duetted with Pepper Servillo to the tune of “Era de maggio”.
