Eminem, show in Austin: comes out of a coffin with an electric saw
A triumphal entry. It is no coincidence that the videos immediately went viral on social media. Eminem performed in Austin on the occasion of the Formula 1 Grand Prix and gave fans an electrifying performance with a set list of over thirty songs. This is the Detroit rapper’s biggest show since his latest album “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” was released last summer. The set-up of the show staged in Austin was centered precisely on Slim Shady’s death: a tomb with Slim’s name engraved on it, a coffin emerging from the ground and from which Eminem emerges wearing a Friday the 13th hockey mask and electric saw. An entrance that immediately sparked the enthusiasm of the fans to which the artist responded by rapping “Licifer”, the symbolic track of his latest project. Em talks about it as a “concept”, in various situations it is actually like that.
In this latest album there is a lot of lyrical and technical quality, there is a taste for the “battle”, flow to spare, but also a bit of boredom and little sonic freshness, elements which, however, are not perceived in a live performance because obviously Eminem only included a few songs from this latest effort, the concert’s setlist in fact spanned his entire career. During the evening there was no shortage of some of the artist’s most famous songs, as well as some gems: “Godzilla”, “Rap God”, “Forever”, single released in 2009 Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, “Stan” and Love the Way You Lie”, both accompanied by Skylar Grey, “My Name Is”, “The Real Slim Shady”, “Without Me”, “Houdini”, “Not Afraid” and “Lose Yourself”. The finale was a real hit list. There was also time to sing, in chorus with the audience, “happy birthday”: last October 17th the artist turned 52. The live show was interesting because it showed what will undoubtedly be the setting of what the artist’s next tour should be. Many, in the wake of the release of “The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)”, are calling for a world tour. For now Eminem only has live shows scheduled for big events in rich countries like the United Arab Emirates. His first and only concert in Italy, in front of 80 thousand people, was six years ago. Needless to say: there are those who, especially after the videos of the live show in Austin and the possibility that the artist announces a tour, dream of a return.
