Elisa, the new album: “I was more sociopolitical than usual”
The latest album of unreleased songs, “Ritorno al futuro/Back to the future”, dates back to 2022, four years ago. A longer interval in her discography between one work and the next had only been between “Pearl days” (2004) and “Heart” (2009), but in that case in between the singer-songwriter had published the collection with unreleased “Soundtrack ’96-’06” (which contained, among others, also “Gli hurdles of the heart” and “Eppure Sentire”, two of her biggest hits) and “Dancing” (a record intended for the market Anglo-American). Now, however, Elisa is ready to break the long silence. And to do it with a record in which the Friulian rockeuse says she was “more sociopolitical than usual”, she who in the past spoke of the climate emergency (“Together”), consumerism and inclusion. In short, a sort of return to the past, or at least what the fans hope for.
The voice of “Luce (Tramonti a nord est)” spoke about the album, which does not yet have a title or release date, in a preview on the sidelines of an interview granted to Perimetri magazine, in which he confessed to having gone through a crisis:
I was stuck due to a subtle crisis. Not yet processed. I was still going through it. I started writing everything. It’s like the music showed me how I felt. As if he were warning me. And as always he saved me, he opened my eyes. For the umpteenth time he asked me: is this what you want? Is this how you are? Luckily it always goes like this. And having this luck is not to be underestimated. Because in the end it is a dialogue with yourself and with the world. It’s an opportunity to have more awareness.
In these four years Elisa has certainly not remained still. At the end of 2022 the live album “Back to the Future Live” was released, in 2023 the project “Intimate – Recording at Abbey Road Studios” (containing the unreleased ” Quando nevica “, born from the collaboration with Calcutta and Dardust), while last November he released the album “San Siro Live 2025”, containing the recording of his first concert at the San Siro Stadium in Milan in over twenty-five years of his career. The last tour dates back to last autumn, in the sports halls. Speaking of the new album, Elisa added:
This album talks about change, transformation, pain… a lot. It’s about falling, falling into a thousand pieces, shattering and putting yourself back together again by looking at reality, the truth, starting again from the purest and sometimes crude, brutal honesty. It talks about various types of discomfort, including social ones. It’s a very bizarre era, if I had known how to speak well maybe I would have gone into politics or done something else, but if I sing there must be a fucking reason.
Meanwhile, the return to the stage involves a series of duets. The first was the one with Mara Sattei on “Mi penserai”, contained in the latest album of the Roman singer-songwriter, released in February. Then “Ricordi” was released, a duet with Blanco: the song will be included in “Ma'”, the new album by the voice of “Brividi”, expected in stores and on platforms this Friday, April 3rd. Another duet is the one recorded with Nayt on “Stupido pensiero”, for the Roman rapper’s new album “Ioindividual”.
