Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard Duet for a Sick Fan. The Video
Yesterday evening (August 26th), during the concert of Pearl Jam which sold out outside Indianapolis, Eddie Vedder took a moment to say hello to a longtime fan who was ill, performing alongside the opening singer Glen Hansard “Song of Good Hope“.
The song had never been played before at a Pearl Jam concert.. “From everything we’ve heard, this woman is truly incredible,” Vedder said of Michael Mintz Menkean active member of the Pearl Jam fan community. “She was challenged and she fought. Not just fought, but fought bravely.”
“Song of Good Hope” was originally released on Hansard’s 2012 solo album, Rhythm and Repose. Although it has never been featured in a Pearl Jam concert before tonight, Vedder has played it on numerous occasions in his solo concerts. between 2017 and 2019.
Last night’s show tonight was the second of the second leg of Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter tour” in support of their 2024 album of the same name, and featured seven songs from it. In addition to “Good Hope,” another nice rarity was the title track from 2013’s “Lightning Bolt,” played for only the third time since 2018.
The band had been scheduled to perform at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, just outside Indianapolis, in September 2023, but postponed the show hours before it was set to begin due to a band member’s health concerns. Pearl Jam has not performed at the Ruoff Music Center since 2010.
Pearl Jam will continue their tour at Chicago’s Wrigley Field for shows on August 29 and 31.
