Each space is a stage, for Lucio Corsi

Each space is a stage, for Lucio Corsi

A couple of weeks ago, Lucio Corsi did his first “Introduction” after the release of the album “I wanted to be a tough”: he transformed a record shop into a stage, a concert in front of a thousand people on the Naviglio Grande. A similar thing had happened to the press conference, where more than presenting the album he had played him in full. In Sanremo, in the press room, he took the guitar and sang. At the Tenco club, when he came to visit us, he started on the floor. And we could go even further back in time: the constant is that every space becomes a stage, for Lucio Corsi. And the club is a stage par excellence, a space for yet another power, its natural habitat.

Corsi arrives in Milan-his adoption city-in the middle of the first post-sanremo tour, post-explosion mainstream: on the alcatraz stage there are two giant amplifiers, behind a tarpaulin with a keyboard that climbs towards the sky, because “each stage is a springboard towards another reality, up there I really can imagine being something else”, he explains.

It’s a quarter when he arrives, anticipated by songs from Roxy Music and Iggy Pop. “Feeling alone in a big city/hurts more than in my part”, sings in “Bianca Arrow”: but it is far from alone, because already from the first song she looks for contact with its audience, going down from that stage-trampoline. And it is rewarded by an audience that knows the whole repertoire by heart, and it is not only for “I wanted to be a tough”. Already on “Radio Mayday” the phones rise, the rumors are heard in chorus.

Corsi wants to be something else and interprets several characters, especially those of his songs: he is the dry friend of “Friend flies away”, to whom they gave a couple of wings instead of the armor to keep him on the ground; It is “the king of the rave” that makes crowdsurfing. But he also plays his reference models: it is the Crooner who refers in Italian Modugno or Randy Newman (“low people”); This is what the “Francis Delacroix” Talkin Blues transforms into a rock plan at Elton John, including glasses, because he is redoing the songs as on a disc risks being banal. And in fact when he arrives “I wanted to be a tough”, he opens it with a wall of four electric guitars: at his side there is Tommaso Ottoman, the “Blood Brother” who enters the middle of the concert as a star, together with a group of six musicians, “My gang with which I play from the high school”, which presents several times during the evening: Iacopo Nieri (pianist), Giulio Grillo (keyboard). (guitar), Marco Ronconi (drums), Filippo Caretti (bass), Carlo Maria Toller (multi -instrumentalist).

He passes from glam rock to the songwriter, alternating the guitar, electric and acoustic, on the plane alone. “In the middle of the night” is one of the most intense moments, with the lights off, because the big stage is fine, but sometimes a tool and an ox eye are enough. Then he closes the concert by changing the ladder, moving “Let There Be Rocko” in bis, performing again “Francis Delacroix” with the same protagonist of the song that passes from the camera to the guitar, and finally still “White arrow”, “to close where it started”, he explains.

It is not only the circularity of the concert, but also of his career: if you are born on stage, live on stage and come back there, even when you went from TV, you have become a media character, everyone is looking for you and want a photo or video with you. Lucio Corsi’s is a perfect and imperfect show, because it is imperfection that makes music human and interesting: in this attitude it has not changed. And, hopefully – and we are sure – it will not change even when it will rise on the stages even larger such as that of the Eurovision in May, of festivals such as the first summer or of the Milanese and Romans’ hippodromas that await him in September.
