DJ Shocca and “60 Hz II”: “It is a return to the future, not an ATM”
After almost twenty years from “60 Hz”, a record that deeply marked the rap scene, DJ Shocca, producer and veteran of the Italian Hip Hop, has decided to publish “60 Hz II”. It is a producer album consisting of 16 songs, between completely unpublished pieces and remakes of songs by the historic first chapter. “A real return to the future”, Coma tells the same shop. Inside there are several collaborations: Club Dogo, Clementino, Damage, Ensi, Ele A, Egreen, Ernia, Frank Siciliano, Guè, Ghemon, Gemitaiz, Inoki, Izi, Jake La Furia, Johnny Marseille, Madbuddy, Mistaman, Nitro, Neffa.
Thanks to its enveloping and underground beats, Shocca creates new sound rugs which, however, do not recover the roots of history, but rather show them. “When in 2004 there was the tenth anniversary of the project I tried to slide everything, and so I did – says the producer – when the twentieth anniversary shoot I realized that working on a second chapter would have been a heavy challengebut interesting. I wanted a new record to play fresh, but at the same time he recalled those years. It was born ’60 Hz II ‘, which is not an ATM, I did not do it for market reasons, but moved I can by passion, heart and soul“The shop style, characterized by its hot and round drums, by precise bassline, has raised the level of Italian productions to compete with the international ones. Over the years, its instruments have come to be a point of reference.”The first historic chapter became that which became because it was not born to be a load -bearing column or to follow trends, I did it only for need – Remember – I made it in different houses, following an almost punk lifestyle. It has become timeless because there are all my stylistic traits inside, there is my sound. Working on a sequel was a great responsibility, But to help me on this mission there were the artists: I realized how all the names involved had at heart that first album, some, the new generation ones, they really grew up with that album. This bridge between what has been there and what is there is the real key. ”
Today, however, there is a certain return to the sounds of the past. “Yes, but this record is not a market move – he underlines – The first volume was born when economies and discography for rap did not exist. Today there is a return to Boom Bap and the rootscertainly, but this disc still has still antagonistic sounds that are not sure of fashion, does not use 808 or similar things. Rap lives on evolutions and it is right to be so. Many new generation rappers wanted to kill the father, but do not cut the umbilical cord with the mother. Go on. But there is a fascination and a love for the sound of certain years, this album is inserted there, but it also wants to look at what is today and for this reason there are several young and contemporary names in the tracklist. The pieces I care most perhaps are not the remakes of the old songs, but the unpublished because there I was able to really launch some classic hip hop bombs with the language of the present. ‘60 Hz II ‘is full of culture, but it is a 2025 album “.
