Demi Lovato reinvents herself with “It’s not that deep”
A new chapter opens in the history of Demi Lovato. On October 24th “It’s not that deep” will be released, the ninth studio album which is not just a record, but also a message: life or music doesn’t always have to be deep. In her new artistic phase, Lovato rediscovers the roots dance-pop with a lighter and more celebratory approach.
Anticipated by the singles “Fast” and “Here all night”, the project is entirely produced by Zhone (Kylie Minogue, Troye Sivan and Kesha) and, in the artist’s intentions, returns the pleasure of writing music as a liberating experience, after years in which the lyrics had taken on a more intimate and cathartic character.
Creating this album with Zhone was an incredible process, and letting go and just thinking about having fun was a truly liberating experience. In the past I’ve often written music that dealt with heavy subjects that I needed to process, that was cathartic.
When I went back to the recording studio, those kinds of songs didn’t touch me like they used to, because I’m in a different period of my life now. I’m happy, I’m in love, and I just want to enjoy life and have fun. I realized that life doesn’t always have to be so serious, and that became the philosophy of this album.
It’s an album made for the dance floor and a night out, and I can’t wait to dance with you
A manifesto of lightness that marks the return of “Popvato“, the term of endearment that she herself uses to describe her pop version, free and carefree. The eleven tracks of “It’s not that deep” therefore go beyond a simple musical return or relaunch: they are a rebirth.
From Disney teen star to pop icon, rock singer, interpreter of intense ballads, testimonial of social causes, including that for mental health: Lovato has gone through many phases in one’s life, almost always intense and painful. It’s not difficult to imagine where the desire to rediscover the joy in making music comes from.
According to Zhone, the manufacturer:
It was truly inspiring to work with Demi and experience her journey of continuous growth. She is a true master in the studio. This album is about breaking free from inhibitions and we had so much fun creating this music! It’s an experience that really shines through in every song.
