David Gilmour: “The Dark Side Of The Moon? I never listen to it again.”
“Dark And Velvet Nights”, the unreleased track by David Gilmour, is the new taster of the long-awaited album “Luck and Strange”, out on September 6th. The anticipation is also growing for the world tour ofthe‘former Pink Floyd, which will start right from Italy with six dates at the Circo Massimo in Rome (from September 27) destined to become one of the most important live events of the year. Meanwhile Gilmour spoke about himself in an interview on Friday of the Republic in which he also returned to talk about “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, a masterpiece by Pink Floyd: “Why is it such a perfect album? Because we were all geniuses. I always think that I too would find it magnificent if I just listened to it again, which I never do. I am very proud of it, but I don’t want to rest on the past. A lot of time has passed, too much time. I am looking forward, I think about the next album I will make, I am more interested in my family and the work I do today”.
Back to the new album: the video for “Dark And Velvet Nights” was directed by Gavin Elder. This track was also written by David Gilmour and Polly Samson, and was born from a poem written by Polly. Gilmour said: “The music just came out of nowhere one day. It was so exciting to find this rhythm. Polly had given me a beautiful poem for our wedding anniversary, which was just sitting on the desk next to me, so I took it and sang it over the track, to see how it sounded with the words. I played it to Polly, and she said, ‘That’s great, that’s great, I’ll have to work on that.’ So she added a couple of lines, and that was it – almost by accident.”
