David Byrne publishes the new single “She Explains Things to Me”

After the announcement last month of the release of his first album in seven years, “Who is the sky?”and the related world tour, David Byrne presents the new single “She Explains Things to me” which was partially inspired by the book ‘Men explain to me things’ Of Rebecca Solnit. Through the inner monologue of the narrator, Byrne reflects on how men tend to diminish the ideas and points of view of women.

“Many times I am amazed at a friend (usually it is a friendly woman) he manages to grasp what’s going on among the characters of a movie long before me,” he says David Byrne. “Sometimes I understand poetry, but other times I need a hand. Even if the song is inspired by the book of Rebecca Solnit ‘men explain to me things’, there is a big difference: mansplaining is usually not required, while in this case I am asking for explanations.”

Following “American Utopia” (Read the review here) Published in 2018, album then adapted in a Musical to Broadway and in a film for HBO, “Who is the sky?” It will be released on September 5 for Matador Records. The album was produced by Kid Harpoon and its 12 songs were arranged by the members of the New York chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra. Among the guests include Hayley Williams of Paramore, St. Vincent and Tom Skinner, The Smile drummer.

The tour will start on September 14, 2025 from Providence, Rhode Island, and will touch Italy on 21 and 22 February 2026 at the Arcimboldi Theater in Milan. “She Explains Things to me” The first single follows “Everybody Laughs” whose video was directed by Gabriel Barcia-Colombo.

“At my age, at least for me, an attitude of” I don’t care more about what others think “,” says Byrne. “I can get out of my comfort zone with the awareness that, more or less, now I know who I am and I know what I am doing. Having said that, every new group of songs – every single song, in reality – is a new adventure. There is always a bit of” How can I make it work? ” So we find ourselves united on the way to an unknown place. “
