Damiano David transforms into a contemporary crooner
“I traveled all over the world to find my voice, only to end up back where it all began. Today is the first day of my life,” he said in a clip Damiano Davidlead singer of Maneskin, at his first solo rehearsal away from the magical and protective circle of the band. “Silverlines”, the new solo single, part of what will undoubtedly be a more complete and complex project, that is, an album with his name and surname, is surprising. It’s not catchy, it has no radio ambitions, it was written to show another part of itself. If you close your eyes, you can imagine him on stage, with a microphone fixed on the stand, with only a spotlight to illuminate him as he sings this song is very far from the pop-rock that Maneskin have accustomed us to. In this track, the Roman artist plays the role of a contemporary crooner and has an energetic voiceat times so vigorous that it almost seems imbued with a certain black culture. Space is made between the classic and today, with some reminiscent echoes the Muses.
The cinematic touch of the English producer elevates the sound parts of the piece Labrinthwho became famous for the “Euphoria” soundtrack. “Silverlines” is an intimate song, it starts with Damiano’s free voiceaccompanied only by the piano. Then a sound comes on more layered, strange and electronic that “fills” the songand then empties itself again in a game of successful sound passages. The artist’s vocal range is truly remarkable and powerful, the lyrics are darker and more personal than many of those written for the Roman band. But eventually the dark clouds are torn apart: “I’m not trying to start a war, because peace belongs to me,” the artist sings. “This song is very special to me. It was one of the first of the project and at the time it represented a letter of hope; Now, when I look back, I can see that I am exactly where the song said I would be. It was natural for me to choose it as the beginning of this new chapter and I really hope that people want to go on this journey with me,” he explained.
The cinematic soul of the song can also be found in the video, directed by the duo Nono + Rodrigo, whose bold and dynamic visual plot perfectly reflects the progress of the pieceas the viewer follows Damiano moving through dreamlike images, close-ups and picturesque landscapes. With “Silverlines”, Damiano, at the first gunshot, hits the mark, because he gives himself a song that is different from everything he has done todaya more artistic than commercial song written to put yourself out there and, courageously, discover yourself and show yourself in a different light.
