Chrisse Hynde, duet album with Dave Gahan and Brandon Flowers
Chrissie Hynde will publish the fourth solo job of the career in October: a new album of Duetti, the third work entirely dedicated to the covers. After “Stockholm”, he made his debut after the decades as a frontwoman of the Pretendese. The album is entitled “Duets Special” ,; The first single is “Always on My Mind” in a duet with Rufus Wainwright. Among the guests include Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode), Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Debbie Harry (Blondie), Shirley Manson (Garbage), KD Lang, Cat Power, Alan Sparhawk (Low) and the late Mark Lanegan.
The project comes after two previous collections of reinterpretations, “Valve Bone Woe” (2019) and “Standing in the Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan” (2021), confirming the artist’s interest in the reinterpretation of other people’s songs.
“I think the idea was born in 2023,” said the singer. “I was talking on the phone with Jörn, Rufus Wainwright’s husband. I think we were going to recommend novels to each other, and for some reason I said: ‘Hey, maybe Rufus and I should do something’, and I quickly thrown 10 songs to Bruciapelo. So Jörn asked Rufus, who was interested, and that’s how everything started.
Central figure of rock since the 1980s, Hynde has been defined by Flea dei Red Hot Chili Peppers “the largest rock singer of all time”, capable of combining punk energy and melodic sensitivity.
