Cameron Crowe talks documentary about Joni Mitchell’s life
Last year the director Cameron Crowe (‘Singles’, ‘Almost Famous’, the documentary ‘Pearl Jam Twenty’) had announced that he would direct a biopic about Joni Mitchell Now, a year later, speaking with Ultimate Classic Rock gave some updates on the work on the film: “I’m super excited.
We will start by the end of this year and hope to have it done by Christmas next year. As with ‘Heartbreakers Beach Party’, it’s Joni’s life, not through anyone else’s prism. It is through his prism. It’s the characters that have had an impact on his life, things you know and a lot you don’t know, and the music is truly cinematic.”
Crowe explained that he and his production team worked carefully on the details before starting filming. “I found a lot of people from her early life, many of them are still alive. We talked to them and asked what it was like knowing Joni then, compared to now. Is she the same girl from Saskatoon? She has a lot of will and drive. a life with a story worth telling, filled with great music and I get out of the way, just like in ‘Heartbreakers Beach Party’.”
Details remain to be defined on the actors who will be involved in the making of the documentary, first of all on who will play the great Canadian singer-songwriter. In July 2023, it was rumored that she would be contacted to play her in her senior years Meryl Streep. By the way, Streep was recently seen on stage at one of Mitchell’s concerts in Los Angeles, singing alongside Elton John.
In 2022, when JoniMitchell was named MusiCares Person of the Year, Meryl Streep he sent a video message in which he told her: “I don’t know how you do what you do, I just know that I need it like food. Ever since we were both girls. We didn’t know each other, but you sang to me. You sang the my life.”
