Bruori: “I can’t see myself without electric guitar”

Six years after participation as a guest of the Zen Circus, Bruori Sas arrives in Sanremo, this time competing with the song “The walnut tree“. “Pragmatically, we wanted my new album to have an important reflector,” explains the singer -songwriter on the choice to present himself in Sanremo. Dario is the only artist to publish a record in the festival week: he has the same title as the song in the race and will be released on Friday 14.
Guest of Rockol Lounge, at the headquarters of the Tenco club, the musician also tells the decision to bring the cover of “La the year that will come” by Lucio Dalla with Riccardo Sinigallia and Dimartino.

Rockol: How was the choice to come to Sanremo born?
Brunori: Pragmatically, we wanted the record on which we worked for two years, with Riccardo Sinigallia and my musicians, had an important reflector. Unfortunately, we live a historical moment in which it happens that you work for two years on an album and it runs out very quickly, in the midst of all the chaos. It is an album that I care about, for many reasons. Then there was this song which, a little for the theme, a little for its musical nature, made me think a lot about Sanremo. Initially I was not very convinced, then we were convinced to do it and, now that I am here, I am even more convinced that I had made a good choice.

Rockol: What effect does it make you stay on the Sanremo stage with the song “The tree of the walnuts”, knowing that there were millions of people who looked at and listened to?
Brunori: I have to be honest: I didn’t think about television.

Having been to Ariston for the Tenco club, has given me familiar with the theater, because otherwise I don’t know how to give this explanation. Because I got on stage and sang for the theater. And I didn’t think about television, nor even the Sanremo Festival. I focused a lot on the text because in general trial I was a bit distracted: I arrived a little inattentive, perhaps even a little swagger. So I told myself to be careful of the text because I have to sing the words well.

Rockol: The choice to be on stage with the electric guitar? A Greatsch, if I’m not mistaken …
Brunori: Yes, even if the brand was covered. It is dictated by my great love for the instrument: I can’t see myself without the guitar, I don’t even know where to get my hands. It is not just an artistic choice, therefore, but it gives me tranquility. In the end, I was born as guitarist and my roots are very rock’n’roll, despite the fact that he then makes such quiet and delicate songs, especially in this case.

Rockol: We are at the Tenco club, that you have attended, and at the Sanremo Festival. Which one do you feel closer to your world?
Brunori: I like to think that these two worlds can meet.

I made this choice for this reason, because I believe that today it is essential to bring a certain representation in different spaces. For years I have reasoned in a certain way, but I realized – also thanks to my grandchildren – that the new generations ignore things obvious for me. It seemed to me that the absence of a certain representation in a national popular context could generate a misunderstanding: the idea that that tradition no longer exists, that it remained firm at 30 or 40 years ago. And this would not be fair, neither for the songwriting song itself, nor for those who, like the Tenco club, undertakes to keep it alive. Just as we do it. For me, the important thing is to perform with the same authenticity, both at the Tenco club and on a stage like that of Sanremo.

Rockol: How did the choice of the cover of “La the year that will come” by Lucio Dalla with Riccardo Sinigallia and Dimartino were born?
Brunori: The choice of the cover was born first of all because, having to bring a song to sing in three on stage, it seemed right to find a songable piece in three. There are not many pieces sung in three. But above all I wanted a song that was a common denominator of all three, because all three of us have always had a great passion for Dalla, which we have already paid homaged individually. Then there was to decide whether to make a song from from the most sophisticated or more known. A little for the reasons for Sanremo, a bit because, in reality, as far as I am concerned, the model I tend to is the miracle for which you can make a song like “The year that will come”, which is a song Author impeccable from a literary and also musical point of view, but also a song of great popular breath. It seemed to me the right choice.

Rockol: On February 14 your new album comes out, “The tree of the walnuts”, then. You are the only one to publish during the week, all your colleagues will come out later.
Brunori: We delayed the exit for Sanremo’s speech a little. It seemed nice to me that immediately after the release of the Sanremo song, which gives the title to the album, there was a continuity. I don’t know if it is a right choice, but for me it was important that I would get out immediately, I was looking forward to; So, it was a more heart choice than calculation.
