Bruce Springsteen is back on stage at the Stone Pony…
For Bruce Springsteen the Stone Pony is a second home. The historic Asbury Park club is also portrayed in the recent film “Deliver Me From Nothing”, where the Boss can be seen going to play even during tour breaks. In those parts he grew musically and is a destination for fan pilgrimages. So it was no surprise to see him take the stage at the benefit evening organized by Little Steven with his Disciples of Soul for WhyHunger. But with an unexpected event: just a minute into his performance, a fire alarm interrupted the performance of “I Don’t Want to Go Home”, Southside Johnny’s classic. The Boss stood at the side of the stage, but the audience wouldn’t hear of it: while E Street Band percussionist Anthony Almonte continued to keep the beat, the crowd continued to sing “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” and Sam Cooke’s “Having a Party.” Once the alarm was over, everything restarted.
“I know it’s time to go, but I don’t want to go home, I don’t care if that fuckin’ fire alarm goes off,” the Boss closed the song. Then the band started the bells of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” but Little Steven Van Zandt stopped everything, calling the next song “10th Avenue Freeze-Out,” which is the story of the formation of the E Street Band. The evening closed with “Merry Christmas Baby”. Here are the videos
