We have been together for so long that when a new song sounds and I listen to it for the first time, I can add my sound, he gives me this freedom. He knows how sound and I imagine that he imagines how he will play the music.”
The two musicians were so intimate that they often embraced and kissed on stage. Clemons went to say that, in many ways, the two of them were like lovers. “It’s like being lovers. There is also a little spectacularity, but we really love each other. In the euphoric state of playing, you feel a bliss that is the most beautiful thing in the world. It is rare to get to that point and you may not have it every day because it would be too much for you. When you share that energy, it is the most beautiful thing in the world.”
