Brian May, his wife updates fans after the stroke: “He’s stable”
Brian May “is stable”. Four months after the stroke that struck the guitarist last September, his wife Anita Dobson wanted to update fans on her husband’s health condition. And reassure them, after the big scare. May has lived in the Surrey countryside for some time and it is there that he spent his convalescence once released from hospital. Dobson, an actress seen in TV series such as “EastEnders” and “Doctor Who”, said that the 77-year-old former Queen guitarist, who “loves birds and animals”, spends his time feeding “the birds and badgers, foxes and pheasants”.
Dobson revealed that the disease had a profound impact on Brian May, who last September announced that he had temporarily lost control of one arm due to the stroke. “He takes each day as it comes,” explained the guitarist’s wife. “These things make you realize that at any moment something can happen to you. You don’t have to be old. You think you’re in shape, you see these people running marathons and then at a young age they leave. You have to live every day as if it were the last. It’s not easy to do. You forget. You have to be aware that life is precious and with life changing so quickly we are all on a bit of a thin line.”
Already last month Dobson reassured fans, revealing that her husband had recovered the use of his arm: “He plays the piano a lot at home. He really likes Beethoven. I love it: the piano at home is relaxing. He hasn’t actually tried to play an instrument until he recovered a little. And then he very slowly started picking up an acoustic guitar and gradually training his muscles. They regained mobility very quickly.”
