Brian Johnson sings Toto … in his own way
In September 2001, two months after the end of the tour in support of the album “Stuff Upper Lip” (Read the review here), the singer of AC/DC, Brian Johnson he joined for a short tour with the Geordies IIso called in homage to Geordiesthe band in which Johnson sang before replacing, in 1980, Bon scott At the microphone of the Australian band.
Together with Johnson on stage there were the guitarist Derek Rothamthe bassist Dave Robson and the drummer Dave Whittakernone of which was part of the original formation of the Geordies. Some songs from the band and several covers rang: “We Gotta Get Out of this place” of the Animals, “Don’t let me be misunderstood” Of Nina Simone, “Rock and roll” And “Black Dog” of the Led Zeppelin, “Since you’ve Been Gone” of the Rainbow, “Whole Fight Rosie” of the AC/DC and, rather unexpectedly, too “Hold the line” of the Toto. Brian Johnson (complete with a jersey of the Newcastle football team) does not try to emulate the voice of the Toto Bobby Kimballbut interprets her in its own way, giving her a more rock look.
In those days the singer of
AC/DC
he also found time to enter the recording studio together with the
Geordies
To record two songs: a new version of
“Worldie’s Lost His Liggy”
old workhorse of the
Geordies
And
“Byker
Hill “
a traditional folk song, dating back to the early 19th century. The songs, both attributed only to Johnson, appeared on two cd compilations published at the end of 2001,
“The Northumbria Anthology – From Tees To Tyne”
And
“The Northumbria Anthology – From Tyne to Tweed”
